This back garden is a corner plot and, therefore, is triangular. It faces northwest but different parts of the garden are sunny at different times of the day. There are changes in levels and the question was whether to accentuate this and add steps to the garden or use terraced beds and gently sloping paths?
The important thing was to create different areas to sit at different times of the day to take advantage of any sunny spots.
A raised lawn partly surrounds a sandstone circle and creates an informal step seat.
A curved path leads through a pergola, with fragrant climbing plants, to a circular patio with an area for the barbecue.
The water feature adds immediate interest to the view from the lounge and a seat invites you out to explore. In time the plants will partly conceal the view and the temptation to sit in the sunshine will coax you outside.
A part of the garden is in shade most of the day and is ideal for growing ferns.
